This week, Brazilian bank Itaú made the headlines by announcing its new $210 million investment in Bitcoin.
On the other hand, Argentina’s CNV presented its new tokenisation regime.
Itaú to invest $210 million in Bitcoin
Itaú Bank announced an initial investment of 210 million dollars to establish Oranje, a company focused on accumulating Bitcoin as a strategic reserve.
This new initiative follows the model of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), a company founded by Michael Saylor, the world’s largest Bitcoin holder.
Guilherme Gomes, the previous CEO of Swan Bitcoin, will lead the business, with Guilherme Ferreira from Bahema serving as CFO.
According to Beincrypto, the governing structure includes prominent crypto figures such as Eric Weiss and Fernando Ulrich.
Oranje intends to use fundraising tactics such as debt issuance and stock sales, following the example of companies like Strategy.
The firm also provides tax and operational benefits to clients wanting direct Bitcoin exposure without intermediaries.
Oranje, formed by Banco Itaú, is betting on Bitcoin’s rise as a strategic reserve asset, citing its global adoption of only 3% despite being the world’s fifth-largest asset, valued at $2 trillion.
The company sees recent legislative changes, notably those following Donald Trump’s election in the United States, as beneficial to the cryptocurrency industry.
Oranje is following Strategy’s method, which has already been adopted by a number of companies around the world.
Oranje, backed by partners including Itaú BBA, Pinheiro Neto Advogados, Pillsbury, and one of the Big Four auditing firms, believes the “Bitcoin Standard” is altering corporate treasury strategies.
They see this trend as a one-of-a-kind market opportunity that has the potential to transform how firms manage their reserves.
Argentina proposes a tokenisation framework
Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV) has presented a new regulatory proposal on tokenisation to members of the capital market and virtual asset industries.
According to Cointelegraph, the draft rule, which was recently authorised under RG No. 1060, establishes a framework for the digital depiction of marketable securities through the use of distributed ledger technologies.
CNV President Dr. Roberto Silva noted the proposal’s unique nature, which is now open for public comment for 15 days.
The policy attempts to equate tokenised assets with traditional securities while also improving security, traceability, and transparency.
It enables the tokenisation of a diverse set of assets, including stocks, bonds, investment fund units, and CEDEARS.
CNV authorities detailed the technical scope of the rule with the cooperation of significant business associations and legal firms, establishing Argentina as a regional leader in digital asset regulation.
Panama City embraces crypto for tax payments
Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi and Towerbank President Benjamín Méndez struck an agreement at Panama Blockchain Week 2025 to allow citizens to pay municipal taxes with cryptocurrency.
The program, undertaken by Towerbank’s fiduciary subsidiary Towertrust, ensures that all cryptocurrency payments are translated into US dollars before they reach the city’s accounts.
This approach enables the municipality to benefit from innovation without directly handling digital assets, while retaining compliance and transparency.
Mayor Mizrachi described the arrangement as a progressive step toward a digitally connected public administration that provides flexible, secure, and lawful payment options.
The initiative will be governed by a formal Municipal Agreement, with cryptocurrency provided as an extra option alongside existing platforms like as Yappy.
